Who's up for a choice ride?

Lock it in Eddy

sunny 20 °C

I'm pumped, Nat is Pumped, AJT is pumped and I'm pretty sure we can get a few more of you kiddies pumped.

This isn't just about cycling, It's about LOTR style adventure, glaciers, good times and sheep.

The plan is to get 1, 2, 3??? campervans and to work our way up NZ's stunning south west coast. It's rated as one of the best rides in the world and despite your preconceived fears of massive climbs and hair raising descents it's actually a relatively easy ride.

Why Campervans?
Too many Kiwis hire tiny cars to move house, the cars get smashed and as a result no NZ hire cars can have tow bars or roof racks other than ski racks. Thanks Bro's. As a result the only vehicle that can carry a multitude of bikes is a campervan. We don't necessarily all need to stay in campervans so if your not too keen to bunk down with 5 of your closest we can work something out. I have a few ideas of how we can work it....

The vision
The way I see it some of us are going ot try and ride the whole thing, some of us are going to ride the choicest sections and some of us are coming along for ride (but not to ride if you know what I mean). It would be great if we had a few people who aren't too concerned about riding the whole thing and wouldn't mind driving a bit or even a few people who were happy to be designated drives for the whole time. Most of the days consist of either a flat 80 - 120 kms or a shorter distance with a few hills. We would break the ride down into chunks and have plenty of breaks to make sure we don't smash ourselves on day one and so people can jump back in the van for sections they dont want to ride. We have two free days which could come in handy in case of bad weather. The first and last day will be spent predominantly driving.

Campers

6 Berth $1791nzd + .04c per km

http://www.easygocampers.co.nz
6 Berth $1881nzd (pos less 10% if I can book it through FCL)

$414 + $25 + $260 = $699 + petrol and food... (and $80 for a Tour NZ jersey)

As I said there is room for people to upgrade to hotel accommodation but at $699 it's a pretty awesome deal. I imagine the cost will increase by about $300 - $400 over the next 6 months so if you're keen it could be worth locking it in now.

I'm in even if we only have enough for one van but it would be awesome to have a reasonably large peloton so Thomo doesn't have to drag me the whole way....

let me know if you're even vaguely interested and I will keep you in the loop,
Ev
